Introducing La Lygie

Introducing La Lygie

In the historical novel Quo Vadis, Princess Lygie is described as the epitome of purity.  We strive to emulate this character in a wall-mounted console shelf that is also a functional combination of brass, steel, rosewood and marble.  Thin slivers of mirror are employed to replicate the vein in the marble without adding substantial weight.

This example, created for a client in Brussels, measures:

Length:  180 centimetres

Height:  47 centimetres

Depth:  30 centimetres

Flows in the vein

Flows in the vein

For a a recent client project, we sourced three model PK 61 low tables, the iconic design by Poul Kjaerholm for E. Kold Christensen.  The design dates from 1955.  We collected examples of the table with the EKC stamp that presented with damaged glass tops.  We replaced the damaged glass tops with new cipollini marble cut from a single slab of stone so that the pattern of the vein can be seen to flow as a continuous river from one table to the next.

Dimensions:  each table is 32 cm high and 80 cm square
